Dr. Maryvelma Smith O’Neil received her M.A. from Tulane University and D. Phil from Oxford University in the history of art, with a specialization in Italian Baroque art. She has authored numerous books and articles on visual cultures, histories and heritage preservation in Europe, North America, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Dr. O’Neil is founder and director of the Alliance to Restore Cultural Heritage in the Holy City of Jerusalem (ARCH) (www.archjerusalem.org). Her current projects are digitally mapping the Illés Maquette of Jerusalem and creating an interactive smartphone/tablet app to protect vulnerable cultural heritage of “outstanding universal value” in East Jerusalem.
