Among the degrees offered by the International Relations Department at Webster University
Geneva is a BA in History. According to the famous aphorism “those who cannot remember
the past are condemned to repeat it.” Hence, history is the handmaiden of international
relations. In order to understand the present and what the future holds, one must
understand the past. Our faculty has a number of instructors who are well-versed in
the study and teaching of history, with degrees from prestigious universities.
The Geneva campus is situated in a city with a very long and rich history, which was the birthplace of Calvinism during the Reformation, and since the 19th century has served as the headquarters of many key international organizations involved in humanitarian affairs, conflict resolution and preserving world peace such at the International Committee of the Red Cross, the United Nations and many others. Many of our faculty members have considerable work experience in these organizations and related institutions of higher learning and research centers. Therefore, students benefit from learning both the theory and reality of history, including its momentous events and major turning points. The program provides students with the knowledge and intellectual skills to understand history, and how to interpret broader historical trends and developments on the global stage.
