In the first two years of your degree, you will complete a general education program. The courses in this program are taken in addition to the courses in your major and are designed to provide you with the broad base of knowledge necessary to meet the challenges of our ever-changing world. They strengthen the academic skills you will need throughout your university and professional careers, such as critical thinking, independent research, writing, time management, team work, public speaking and presentations.
To fulfill the General Education requirements, you must take at least one course in the following areas:
Critical Thinking (G1)
A systematic method of examining and evaluating arguments.
Communications (G2)
Writing and speaking that are clear, concise, and accurate when conveyed to a broad audience
Historical Consciousness (G3)
Recognition of causes, relationships, and sequences within seemingly random social and historical events.
Humanities (G4)
Analysis of the themes of human experience through the legacy of great works and ideas.
Values (G5)
Critical reflection on the attitudes and beliefs relevant to individual and social choices and actions.
Cultural Understanding (G6)
Examination and comparison of international and/or diverse cultures.
Arts Appreciation (G7)
Recognition of artistic expressions gained through analysis, reflection, or practical experience.
Scientific Understanding (G8)
Analysis of concepts of a scientific discipline and its methods, limitations, and impact in the modern world.
Mathematics (G9)
Recognition of the value and beauty of mathematics, as well as the ability to use geometric, algebraic, or numerical reasoning.
