Research Faculty:

  • Dr. Alexandre J. Vautravers (Department Head)
    Dr. Vautravers earned a PhD in Contemporary History from the University of Lyon 2 and a PhD in Social and Economic Sciences at the University of Geneva. His research interests in international relations include international economic relations, geopolitics, strategic studies and conflict resolution, as well as humanitarian action. Dr. Vautravers is, a member of the Swiss Academy of Science & Technology (SGTI), Association suisse d’Histoire et de sciences militaires (ASHSM), Centre d’Histoire et de perspectives militaires (CHPM), among others. He is the chief editor of the Revue militaire suisse (RMS). He is a regular contributor of several Swiss and international media.
  • Dr. Oreste Foppiani
    Dr. Foppiani earned a PhD in International History and Politics from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (HEI) in 2008.  He has conducted research on historical topics such as the Spanish-American War, Anglo-American relations during World War II, the Italian Social Republic and Republican Fascism (1943-1945), the US and Italian Navies, British and US intelligence during World War II, the history of European integration, EU security policies, EU-US relations and US power politics. He is currently working on a project on EU migration policies.
  • Dr. Jubin M. Goodarzi
    Dr. Goodarzi earned a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics. He has carried out research primarily on subjects related to the history and international relations of the Middle East, including the foreign policies of the great powers in the region, the foreign policy of Iran, arms proliferation, wars in the Persian Gulf, the Arab-Israeli conflict and resource problems in the region. His most recent work was on the alliance between Syria and Iran.
