General Conditions:

Selection of Intern: Final selection of the intern is up to the host organization (employer). Webster University will advertise the internship students in the Internship Program. Employers may request that only students in the Business Honors Program receive the posting. Career Services is open to discuss any specific conditions regarding selection or posting with a host organization.

Length of Internship: Internship work periods are proposed by the host organization and agreed to with the student before the internship starts. The internship length should be a reasonable amount of time that enables both the host organization and intern to meet their goals. Internships can be full or part time (graduate students have evening classes) and typically last from 3 to 6 months.

Terms: Host organizations are asked to provide an internship description so that duties are understood before the internship begins. Typically, this description is used to advertise the internship posting. Career Services can help to develop this description if required. Past internship duties have included research, marketing and feasibility studies, information management, event planning, business planning, project management, media design-production and training. The host organization should provide supervision for the intern. Students may be asked to sign confidentiality agreements for the term of their internship. It is understood by students and staff that internships are not promises of future employment.

Compensation: Internships may be paid or unpaid positions according to fair business practices. Foreign students at Webster have a Swiss Student Permit B which permits them to work up to 15 hours a week during class sessions and full time during breaks.
