What Does the Scholars Program Involve for Students Who Study in Geneva?

Any student accepted into the Scholars Program will have the opportunity to work on either a senior project or bachelor thesis on a topic of their choosing. During a span of three to six months, students complete their thesis or project under the guidance of a faculty member from their department. Their chosen topic is usually related to either their desired Master’s program or their current field of study. As such, it provides an excellent opportunity for students to thoroughly explore a topic they find really interesting. Depending on their chosen major, they can also use this as an opportunity to enhance their skills in writing, research, and more. For example, Media Studies students might decide to work on a project that helps strengthen their skills in production, while Computer Science students might use it as an opportunity to level up their programming skills.

Those who study abroad in Geneva at Webster must first receive an invitation if they wish to join the program. This means the student must first maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5, and a cumulative GPA of that number or more is necessary to complete the program. Students who have been heavily involved in either on or off-campus extracurricular activities will also have an advantage with regards to admissions. Students receive a Scholars Program Certificate after completing their project or thesis, maintaining the GPA requirements, and participating in a four-month research seminar.

How Does This Program Benefit Students During and After Their Studies?

Students who take this program while they study in Geneva can reap benefits beyond their studies, as well. For example, taking the Scholars Program can elevate your CV in the eyes of employers and graduate school admissions representatives. Scholarships up to CHF 10,000 are also available to Freshmen in the program, though students wishing to be part of the program don’t necessarily have to be Freshmen to receive an invitation.

Program alumni have also gone on to graduate school at prestigious universities such as Cambridge University, the London School of Economics, and Canada’s McGill University—just to name a few. Furthermore, students have the opportunity to take part in the Student Scholars Committee, write synopses of their research that could be published on our website, and present their findings at the Webster Research Forum.
