Webster University at a glance

Origins
Webster University was founded in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA in 1915.
The first international campus was established in Geneva in 1978.

Nature of the institution
Webster University Geneva is an independent, non-profit institution of higher education offering bachelors’ and masters’ degrees in the humanities, social sciences, business, management, information technology and media communications. It is a branch campus of Webster University, whose home campus is in St. Louis, Missouri. Webster University has international campuses in Europe (London, Leiden, Vienna, Geneva) and Asia (Thailand, Shanghai). In Switzerland, Webster University is incorporated as a nonprofit Swiss Foundation. Students can spend one or more semesters studying at an international campus.

Accreditation
Webster University is accredited in the United States by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. This accreditation applies to all of Webster’s programs in all locations.

Location
Webster University Geneva is located on a park-like setting in the suburban town of Bellevue, a 7-minute train ride from central Geneva. The campus comprises five buildings on two and a half hectares. Both train and bus service are available immediately adjacent to the campus.

On-campus and off-campus housing
Webster’s Living and Learning Center houses 49 students. It offers fully furnished single studios and 2-bedroom shared housing units. First year students are required to live on campus. Webster’s Housing Office helps students find off-campus housing.

Student body
Approximately 500 students from 90 countries; 350 undergraduate and 150 graduate students.

Faculty
Approximately 100 faculty members from 25 countries.

Costs

  • Tuition for Bachelor’s degree programs: approximately CHF 25,000 per year
  • Tuition for Master’s degree programs: approximately CHF 30,000 for each program (14 months of full-time study)

Living expenses per year: approximately CHF 25,000

Student Permits
Full-time students may obtain a student permit from the Canton of Geneva.

    - Equivalent of 2.5 grade point average, on a 4 point scale
    - TOEFL score of 550 (paper based test), 213 (computer based test), or 80 (Internet based test)
  • Master’s degree programs
    - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
    - Equivalent of 2.5 grade point average, on a 4 point scale
    - TOEFL score of 575 (paper based test); 230 (computer-based test); 89 (Internet based test)
